Description and photos
M-61 is an 1 hour oxygen breathing apparatus intended for use in fire fighting and chemical industry. It was not designed for use in mining rescue operations due to it's short protection time. For such operations the multi-hour apparatuses like W-63P or W-70 were used.
The apparatus is contained in a sheet metal container with a carrying harness and isolating pads to improve comfort when carrying. Inside, on the bottom an oxygen tank is located. The tank is connected to the valve assembly. Above the tank a breathing bag is placed with the breathing automaton lever mounted on the stub - when the bag depresses during the deep breaths the level actuates the automaton allowing for an increased oxygen dosing. The carbon dioxide absorber is mounted on a metal bed with two connectors for connecting it to the exhaled air port from one side and a breathing bag on another.
